WHO CAN ENTER THE SCHOLASTIC AWARDS? Any student grade 7-12 can enter their art with no limit on entries, guided by a teacher
WHAT KIND OF ART CAN I ENTER? There are 26 categories of art entries to choose from, traditional 2D & 3D and contemporary art forms.
HOW IS THE ART JUDGED? BY WHO? WHERE? Works are judged digitally and by region(ours is Oregon), then regional gold winners are judged nationally
Central Oregon student works are judged within our Oregon region but our exhibition and ceremony are held locally at Pinckney Gallery in Pence Hall at Central Oregon Community College. The show is open to the public for a month(February-March)
Works are judged by three criteria: technical skill, originality and personal vision
WHAT AWARDS CAN I EARN WITH MY ART? Awards earned are Gold Key, Silver Key, Honorable Mention and the American Vision Award(Best in Show)
Additionally, students may earn other recognitions and even scholarship prizes for their work
DOES IT COST ANYTHING TO ENTER MY ART? Entry fees are $5 for individual works, $20 for a senior portfolio of 8 works of art
WHAT IS A SENIOR PORTFOLIO? A Senior portfolio is a collection of 8 exemplary works by one 12th grade student, plus a written artist statement. These works can be entered as individual pieces as well. Portfolio winners may gain scholarship awards.
WHAT IS THE "NATIONAL" SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS? All Regional Gold Key winners move on to national judging
National winners are published in the yearly Scholastic Art and Writing Awards publication. They are also invited to the national awards ceremony in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Their works are exhibited in a professional gallery in NYC and a selection of award winning works tour the United States in a six city show exhibition. National winners may also be selected for further scholarship awards, typically from well known art colleges.
